SUMMARY:Tire Recycling Collection
DESCRIPTION:Bring us your tires! We’ve put in some overtime to make sure we can continue on the annual tire collection and recycling event that the former Kalkaska County Recycling Center hosted. \nWe’ve reserved two semi-trailers for the event and hope we can fill them both. There are a few stipulations though to make the event a success: \n\n\nFREE to Kalkaska County residents (proof of residency is required). \n\n\nREGISTRATION is recommended to help ensure a smooth traffic flow of the event: RSVP list will go live one month prior to the event. \n\n\nLimit of 10 tires per household. \n\n\nOnly regular car and truck tires will be accepted. \n\n\nNO semi-trailers or tractor tires. \n\n\nNO tires larger than 4 feet tall or 12 inches wide. \n\n\nVolunteer help to load tires will be greatly appreciated! \n\n\nThe event will take place at the former Recycling Center on Saturday\, July 13\, 2024 from 9am to 1pm.

SUMMARY:Household Hazardous Waste Collection
DESCRIPTION:The event is limited to Kalkaska County Residents only (proof of residency is required via driver’s license\, water bill\, tax bill\, etc). Appointments are highly encouraged for the 2024 collection event. This is to streamline the process of drop-off and to ensure an even flow of traffic which will allow us to accept more items. \nAppointments can be made online (button below) or by calling the office at (231) 258-3307. Please limit one time slot per household. \nAccepted items: Fertilizer\, pesticides\, cleaning solvents\, automotive fluids\, oil/latex/lead paint\, turpentine\, mercury\, nail polish/remover\, pool chemicals\, batteries\, and MUCH MORE. You name the chemical\, our vendor will take it! Please no electronics. \nDrop off details:  \n\n\nDrive up to the main entrance of the Kalkaska Middle School\, this entrance is off of West Kalkaska Street and is a circle drive. \n\n\nStaff will greet you and check you in. \n\n\nIf you have a large number of items\, a donation is greatly appreciated. It helps us be able to host a bigger and better collection event in the future and offset the costs of the increased materials being brought in. \n\n\nPlease have items in the trunk or bed of a truck and easily accessible. Sometimes items in cardboard boxes make this process easier. \n\n\nIF you have mercury\, please contact us about how to transport it!! It should be in a sealed plastic or glass container\, not just in a cardboard box. It can be impossible to contain if the container is broken. \n\n\nStaff and volunteers will take the items from your vehicle. \n\n\nThen you are free to go about the rest of your day knowing the materials you brought will be disposed of properly and not leak into or beautiful rivers and forests. \n\n\nPlease contact our office if you have any questions about the event\, (231) 258-3307. \n
